Detecting identical aliases in your SQL join- or where clauses

Hi all,Who hasn't experienced this? You're testing your SQL code, only to discover that you're getting more results than expected. In some cases, accidentally using the same alias within the same join- or where clause can lead to this scenario. For example, “where t1.customer_id = t1.customer_id”. This effectively creates a condition like “1 = 1”, which is always true.In this small blog, I'll guide you through detecting this situation throughout your branch's codebase. To effectively follow this blog, you'll need access to a code editor that has built-in support for regular expressions. IntroductionThe Software Factory provides a menu item where it is possible to access screens related to a large part of your model, named “Model content” (formerly “Full model”).Because these screens are not shown in the context of a particular process, all available data in the screen is shown. This results in a lot of tab pages that display a lot of information.These screens are also present on another place in the SF, where the are optimized for the process they are part of. Think of:Data model > Tables: when you want to create a new table. At this stage you don't need to worry about the UI aspects of the table. User interface > Screen types: when you want to change a screen type. This screen contains a handy designer which can be used to visualize what your screen will look like. Processes > Tasks: when you want to introduce a variant for a task. The screen type here is set up hierarchically, which means there will be enough space to work with when a variant is introduced.

Selecting multiple prefilters now always leads to: where [prefilter 1 query] AND [prefilter 2 query]. I would also very much like to have the possibility to make OR prefilters. Not only between columns (colour = red OR shape = square) but also within columns (colour = red OR colour = blue OR shape = square).

Save your own prefilter queries / filter expressionsOn the backlog

Using UP, it is already possible to create and save your own prefilters, by entering values for the available columns in the table. This always leads to an and-based prefilter, which has limited options. I would like to be able to make my prefilters by writing a query or by saving my filter expressions. This way you can also make your own or-based prefilters, use subqueries or joins, etc.

Hi everyone!We’ve released the following platform improvements this week:IAM 2022.1 and up20230324 - Changing default status for model defined prefilters When editing prefilters from the Windows GUI or Web GUI, it is possible to deviate from the model settings by indicating whether a prefilter should be active by default. However, this setting was not saved in the IAM user preferences. As a result, the change was lost after restarting the GUI. We have corrected this so that the changes are saved again in IAM. IAM 2023.120230320 - API change for update data migration source We have released a platform improvement to address the job_id parameter of the add_job_to_update_data_migration_source_version task. Hi everyone!We’ve released the following platform improvements this week:SF 2023.120221223 - Validation code fix for 3 validations There were 3 validations regarding control procedures with status development/review/disapproved, that did not provide a value for mandatory columns. This resulted in an error executing this validation. This has been fixed in the VALIDATIONS base model by providing the required values. Afterwards, be sure to generate your work model before validating again. 20221227 - Remove platforms in Thinkwise base models Some Thinkwise base models were supplying platforms to work models unintentionally. This has been resolved by removing them. 20221228 - Unit test performance improvement Unit test performance has been improved. The time it takes to assemble the unit test code and to perform declarative assertions after a unit test is executed has been sharply improved. Make it optional to include inactive control procedures when performing a code searchCompleted

When searching for code in the screen 'Code search', inactive control procedures (and their templates) are always included. Most of the times, however, I want to search/analyze impact in active control procedures because they have an actual effect on your end product. Results for inactive control procedures then only distract me.I propose to add a new checkbox to this screen, making this an optional feature: "Extend search to inactive control procedures". This checkbox should be empty by default, in my opinion.

Hi everyone!We’ve released the following platform improvement this week:SF 2021.3 & 2022.1 20220729 - Staged tables correction for DB2 control procedures A lot of control procedures in base projects now use the staged strategy. Some of these control procedures in the DB2_BSR base project did not have a #-prefix for the temporary tables. This led to the unjustified usage of the permanent equivalents of these tables, which resulted in an error message stating that the columns 'project_id' and 'project_vrs_id' were expected. By adding the #-prefix the tables are recognized again as temporary tables, and the error does not occur anymore. Wish you all a great weekend.

Hi everyone!We’ve released the following platform improvements this week:SF 2022.2 Correction in upgrade script: renamed icons with duplicate names not reconnected to their objects During the upgrade to the 2022.2, all icons are placed in the new icon repository. After this, the icon is reconnected again to its corresponding objects. A problem occurred in the upgrade code that reconnects those icons having duplicate names to their corresponding objects. This resulted in these objects losing their icon. This has been fixed in the Upgrade script. Unfortunately, existing installations can not be fixed retroactively. In case you haven't started using the 2022.2, it is advised to redownload the Installation package from TCP. Otherwise, the affected objects should be manually linked to the correct icon again. Difference comparison between a variant and its base table/other variantsOpen

It regularly occurs that I can't figure out why a specific variant has been made, especially when no meaningful variant name has been used. It can be a lot of work to distinguish the differences with the table it's based on, or with other variants, in order to determine whether its existence is still justified.For this reason I would like to be able to execute a automatic comparison between a table variant and the table it's based on or with another variant for that table.

The effect of granting rights to an objects on its childsOn the backlog

A number of wishes have been submitted in TCP concerning adding rights to an objects.They indicate that when rights are granted to an object, they must also be granted to its childs. Same goes for revoking these rights. I was able to extract the following situations:Rights for a table should pass on to its columns Rights for a task should pass on to its task parameters Rights for a report should pass on to its report parameters Rights for a menu should pass on to its menu items Rights for a process flow should pass on to its process actionsA number of questions about this wish:What if a new column / task parameter / report parameter / menu item is added after setting up the rights? Hi everyone!We’ve released the following hotfixes this week:SF 2021.320211123 - Correction to sort Unit test data properly In rare occasions it would be possible that Unit test data was incorrectly sorted, causing the data to be inserted into the wrong column. This has been fixed. 20211124 - Corrections in creation process In some occasions the Execute source code log would show the incorrect message in the Log screen. This has been resolved and now all returned messages are shown. The Complete creation task would show an informational message about it being queued after a job the task created. This has been fixed and the task will only show the message once the first job is queued after another job. IAM 2021.320211123 - Validation tree refresh frequency In the 2021.3 version of the SF, jobs are no longer performed by a client (the GUI) but instead by Indicium. Include some more data when saving cubesOpen

This idea is created on behalf of some of our users, combining their ideas into one.When saving a cube view as an UP cube view, it would be desirable to include some more data/settings:Prefilter state: for example, a detailed overview of hours will often cover the last period, where a trend analysis will cover several years. When you are always interested in the trend analysis, you have to activate the prefilter yourself every time. Active filters: any manual filters should also be saved. Selected print options: a user now has to reset these with every print. Expansion of rows: the rows are always expanded when working in the cube view, even when the rows were collapsed when the cube view was saved.

Hello everyone!We’ve released a service update for the 2021.2 IAM version. This service update provides optimizations that improve the performance on larger datasets for several get_gui views.When starting an end product created with the Thinkwise Platform, the model must be loaded. For the Windows and Web GUI, this is done by using so-called get_gui views. These views load the data in the most efficient way, which is a challenge because the model and amount of data can differ enormously per customer. We always strive to offer a solution that works as well as possible for everyone.

Setting for confirmation when a task has completed successfullyOpen

This idea focuses on a new setting for tasks. This settings would allow you to indicate whether you want to receive confirmation that the task has run successfully after its execution.For some tasks you just want to be sure that they have been run completely and successfully. It would also be ideal for situations where you work on some other things while the task is running. You will then be notified when it is completed.Currently, this can be achieved by writing additional code or including the task in a process flow. I would prefer to have a formal setting in the model to do this.

Hello everyone!We’ve released the following hotfixes this week:SF 2019.2 and up20210317 - Fix variant join in i_ui_tab_cube_view In the Universal GUI, when Show cube view is turned off in the variant, this cube view will no longer be shown. SF 2020.1 and up20210325 - Tinyint in system versioning When a new column is added to a table that is system versioned, the actual system versioned table also gets the new column. The value this new column gets depends on the datatype. We fixed an error that a new tinyint column would get '-1' as default value. A tinyint cannot contain a negative value, so we changed this to '0'. SF 2021.120210323 - Role column sync performance fix The process of synchronising to IAM has been increased in performance. 20210326 - SF DB to Azure Some code is fixed that resulted in errors while exporting or backing up a SF database to Azure. Being able to automatically assign a validation to a developerClosed

Sometimes we agree in my development team that specific validations should always be solved by the same developer. In that case we run the validations and assign them to the right person, using the assign task. Would you be interested in the idea to be able to arrange this in advance? We could add the developer field in the validation --> maintenance screen. When this field is filled, the validation task automatically assigns this validation to that developer. Of course you must be able to deviate manually afterwards for exceptions.

Filter in treeviews without losing parent nodesOn the backlog

Let's say I want to apply a manual filter in the following treeview, so I can see all validations assigned to me. This will lead to the following structure: I would very much like to be able to keep seeing the parent nodes, leaving this full branch of the tree intact. This way you never lose the structure of your treeview out of sight while filtering.

Show source for generated objectsCompleted

Sometimes you want to makes changes to generated objects, for example the code of a generated control procedure or validation. You can't see from which source these objects are generated. This can be from the dynamic model in the project version you are working in, or from a linked base project. How ideal would it be if you could see in one instance from what source a generated object like this originates. This way you can directly make your adjustments in the Software Factory, without having to query on the database in which projects the generated field for this object is empty.

Effective role rights behaviour (on the database)

From the 2020.2 version of the Thinkwise suite, the way of determining effective role rights has changed. This may have consequences when you use the IAM feature to apply user rights to the database. This text focuses on what may have been changed for you, and how to deal with these changes. Calculating the effective role rights To determine what actions a user is allowed to perform, we use effective role rights. Effective role rights are a combination of: Meta model settings Role rights Previously the effective role rights were calculated in IAM. However, the meta model settings and role rights are both stored in the SF. So it makes more sense that the effective role rights are already determined in the SF, and pass on to IAM during synchronization. So this is done from the 2020.2 version. This also offers major advantages for the auditing module that now exists in IAM. After all, it is no longer necessary to calculate in IAM which maximum rights a user had during a certain perio
