Propose your fantastic ideas regarding the Thinkwise Platform to our Product Team.
Currently we can only use pictures to use as background. But I think it would greatly profit the Wow-factor of applications if we would be able to use GIF backgrounds for applications.I'm imagining along the lines of a mostly static picture but with moving elements like a flag or even trucks or something like that. The possibilities are endless. Edit, it is indeed possible in the Universal GUI like Jasper stated. Upload the animated background in Themes:
As I'm working with the Software Factory and end product, I noticed that I'm unable to collapse all menu group items in one go. This leaves me clicking all close menu group buttons to get a clean look. Since I rarely use the filter because I like to use my mouse to open menu items, I would like a button somewhere in the menu to close all opened menu groups.
To open an application, we have to create an .ini file and drag it onto the GUI. For all my projects, I have a default folder of shortcuts, in which I change the folder name and project name for the current project. Also, new Thinkwise Developers don't understand this (see my latest conversation with @Freddy) I'd like it when shortcuts would be created automatically. When I create a new project in the Software Factory, create two shortcuts: one to open the SF, and one to open the application against the SF. If there is any information required to create those that can't be found in the model, it could prompt for this information. Also, when creating a new application in the IAM, create the shortcuts too.
At this moment (SF version 2018.3) quite a few languages are available to have the GUI presented in. By adding one or more BASE projects and including those languages in your project the GUI can be used by loads of international users (getting data in your tables presented in the users language is up to the developer). Adding one of the GUI_TRANSLATIONS* base projects makes them available in the GUI. At this moment we have a request to add Polish as a GUI language. An option is to create my own base project and copy all the GUI related translation objects from one language to, let's say, PL-pl for Polish. But as this is part of the Thinkwise set of projects (and I've seen this happen in the past, when I added Spanish before Thinkwise caught up with me), I'd rather have Thinkwise add another GUI_TRANSLATIONS project to the SF (as a Hotfix, preferably). Perhaps others have different languages on a wishlist.
We have a table with more than 6 million 'trade item' records (and a top(1000) set via 'Subjects'). A user is allowed to change the sort order of the screen. Some sort orders will result in a freeze of the screen. The user can't reset the sort order to the default (from the TSF) because the screen won't open anymore. Even when closing and opening it again. We could disable sorting completely but we don't want that. The only way to resolve this is deleting the user preference from IAM. But this has to be done by the support department. It would be a nice addition if we can configure the sort order (made by a user) to reset when opening/closing a screen.
Because of Universal we use SVG icons for the entire application. Universal changes the color of the icon for the dark theme. But it only changes the color if the SVG itself doesn't have a color, which makes sense. If I don't use a color, the Windows and Web GUI's interpret it as black. But in the Windows and Web GUI I never want to use a black icon. I'd like to be able to set a color for the SVG icon in the theme, but perhaps also per icon. In that way, I can easily change colors without replacing all my SVG icons. I understand you can have an SVG icon with multiple colors, I don't have a solution in mind for those yet. Maybe you can think with me. But now I have to create variants of subjects merely for the icons, and that doesn't feel right.
When using Process analysis in the Software Factory, the project I work on has a long list of requirements divided in multiple categories. (Note: we have over 3500 items in the treeview) Currently I open the Process analysis screen and every time, I will Collapse all items in the Treeview to then select the item I need to open. I noticed that there's no User Preference for this which means I will always need to Collapse all items by right-click and select the 'Collapse all' item (or use the shortkey Ctrl+Leftarrow) What I would like is this to be determined by User Preference if present. If I always open that particular screen and Collapse all items, it should do it for me already upon opening.
When a ‘Preview’ component shows an A4 sized PDF file the whole page is visible but when I select another record with an A3 sized PDF the zoom factor will be the same. Which results in a display of the A3 sized file without showing the whole page. A4 A3 It would be nice if the zoom factor is determined automatically based on the page size of a file.
The current situation is as follow: We have a development IAM, test IAM, acceptance IAM and production IAM. For now we can focus on dev and test IAM. The roles are now in the SF, so after synchronizing to any IAM the roles are copied automatically, which is very nice. When creating a new branch or application we synchronize this to the develop IAM, and from there we create groups and attach them to the roles and application. But now we want to push the application to the test IAM, we synchronize the SF to the IAM, all the roles are copied, but not the groups. It would be very nice to have a task which can copy the groups to the test IAM FROM the develop IAM and attach the roles already present in the test IAM. This way the develop IAM is leading towards develop, acceptance and production.
This is just a tiny wish but in my opinion it makes sense to change the order of the menu items under Processes. It should be in ascending order of importance: Processes Process flows Tasks Reports Custom screens In my opinion the process flows are what binds everything together, tasks and reports are mere tools that can be used to achieve specific tasks and custom screens are quite rare anyways.
Currently some Extenders can be modelled in the SF (e.g. Maps and Resource scheduler). The resource_scheduler used to be a piece of custom code (DLL) in our case, but now we can use Extender modelling in the SF (after some serious help from Thinkwise). Thing is, the custom code provided us with a Month or Year schedule, doing so by setting (amoungst others) the "Minimum date" and "Maximum date" in the Extender. The latter is, as far as we know, not possible when using the Extender modelling. It is either hardcoded (so of no use) in the SF or leave it blank. It would be helpfull if in a project some settings to an Extenders properties could be done dynamically. And as soon as this becomes available a good piece of explanation or better examples would be great as well.
When copying a taskparameter in a project (SF) also copy the lookup information defined for that particular parameter. I'm now adding a new parameter to ten or more task and have to add all lookup settings to the new parameterfield to each new parameter for each individual task. The amount of time I could spend doing other things is significant.
One of the members from the project I work on noticed that the 'Update' button stays available even after the subject doesn't contain any rows. This doesn't break or harm anything; it's just that the button is available to push even though it won't do anything. The wish is: If there are no rows present in the subject, disable the 'Update' button automatically.
When columns are copied (using the appropriate task) the SF keeps the original sequence numbers. Instead of that I'd like to see The new columns copied to the end of the target table Even better: insert the copied columns after a certain sequencenumber (that can be entered in the task), but keeping the lot together (by resequencing the table after each copied row). Now, for instance, when copying lets say a set of adress information columns from one table to another, the are spread out through the target table; placing them back together is a nuisance.
Currently I'm working on a project for which I need to make a generic import module/environment. This is very complex and costs a lot of time to make, and it is highly possible that tables and columns need to be changed during the creation of it. I have to resort to paper or a whiteboard, since I don't have a tool to make a quick and simple data model. Because I use paper and or a whiteboard, after designing a conceptual data model on it, I have to then make a picture of it with my phone to share the idea with my colleagues. Then if someone says something should change, I have to recreate it again, this time with the changes. Making a data model in the Software Factory is quite quick if you know how it should look, but if I have to recreate it, change it and/or add tables, add references between tables, add domains and so on, it can be quite time-consuming. Also the possibility of unused domains will increase; read more work to delete everything related to a deleted column. So what my idea is, is to make a conceptual data model. Just a plain simple view of a model with boxes as tables, text lines in the boxes as columns and reference lines between the boxes to show references. This could then be used in Design specifications to show (visibly) how tables are in relation to each other. Also a picture tells more (in a shorter amount of time) about what the model will look like. Let me know how you think about it! 😁
In terms of user interface it would be great if a user could start (or pull-up) a dashboard with a bunch of tiles on them. These tiles can be formatted as: Data, graphs or Gauges. With such a dashboard you can show the user the higlights to work on. By clicking on a tile you can see the underlying data or you can pull-up as more detailed dashbaord
Optional fields do not show on Indiciums output when they are empty. Is it possible to setup a setting in the Indicium conifiguration that all empty values will be displayed in the JSON response?
Right now it is not possible to link a task to a table multiple times. I have a task which has to be added to a table multiple times filling the task parameters differently. It is possible to make 'Task variants' which is a great start, but it is not possible to link different task variants to the same table. This because the current primary key of tab_task is not allowing that. (and who knows about the GUI too...) Right now i have 9 tasks with almost the same name, using the same control procedure templates, and linked to the same table. The only difference is the parameters are getting filled differently.
I'm running into the restriction of exceeding max length on the column db_value on table elemnt. We're running some dynamic code where we put the table name in the elemnt_id and db_value column, but the db_value is restricted to 25 characters. Is there a reason for limiting this to 25 characters? if not, please increase it.
