I’m curious to hear about experiences with Azure OpenAI with Copilot in SSMS. Has anyone tried it and what is your opinion in comparison with Azure data studio with github copilot for example?

Hi Peter,

During the private preview, I was able to to test Copilot for SSMS. In its current state it is a separate window/panel in which you can ask questions about queries, data and such. Copilot does know the structure of your database and can help you with writing queries.

However, it is not a in-line Copilot like Github Copilot does in Azure Data studio for example. This makes it quite tedious to use as I feel the power of AI is in its Code completion capabilities. So in its current state, I don't feel it is worth it. It could be that my take is outdated by now.
