Encrypt data on the DB table column level

At some point we will need to encrypt data on the DB table column level, by using this method: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/relational-databases/security/encryption/encrypt-a-column-of-data?view=sql-server-ver15

I couldn’t find any information if Indicium supports this feature/functionality.

We are currently using Web GUI and Universal GUI

Only found this https://community.thinkwisesoftware.com/questions-conversations-78/azure-indicium-universal-appsettings-json-encryption-of-the-db-username-and-password-1492 in Questions and Answers

Hi,

For the 2021.3 release we are planning on looking at Encyption as talked about by Jasper in the Release Plan 2021.3 | Thinkwise Community (thinkwisesoftware.com)

Indicium currently doesn't support encryption options, but this doesn't mean data sent or or from Indicium is not safe.

@Jasper Out of curiosity (it is not an urgent need), but what is the status of additional encryption options referenced in the Release Plan 2021.3?

  • Which direction are you guys heading?
  • When can we expect new encryption features?

Hi @Arie V,

Due to changed priorities we have not yet been able to start the research.

The different options all have their pros and cons, also depending on the capabilities of the different database management systems we support. However, I expect the first version of encryption we're going to provide will be client-side encryption and decryption by Indicium, to encrypt fields that don't need filtering or sorting.

I'd love to include this in the 2022.2 release, but we are still working on the planning for that release.
