cursor_to_col_id in a grid universal gui

I am having trouble to get the @cursor_to_col_id working in a grid using universal gui. Should this be working?

 

After a simple statement as set @cursor_to_col_id = 'column_i_want_to_go_to’ the focus seems to be lost.
