To insert the new record in the same group as the user is currently in, the grouped columns should be marked as "Include in insert" at the subjects' columns section in the SF.
 

We noticed inserting records in a grouped grid subject was not working as expected atm in the Universal GUI.

Note: a form component is currently required to be able to insert a record. The grid itself can't add a record in this case.

Can you raise a TCP ticket for fixing the insert logic in Universal?

The bug with "Include in insert” is fixed now and the fix will be included in the upcoming 2024.3.14 release.

By that, the values where the subject is grouped on will be filled in by default when the use starts adding a new record, so the new added record will be placed in the currect active group.
