Change the Search Code shortcut to Ctrl+Enter in the SF

Related products:Software Factory

For almost all actions in the SF you can use ctrl+enter to execute/save your changes. However for Code Search this currently is Alt+S. This is counterintuitive and could be more user friendly.

Hi Harry,

The shortkey Control+Enter is not available for tasks as it is a reserved shortkey by the GUI. However, we could investigate using a handler or process flow to allow Ctrl+Enter to work. Not all users use the shortkey to save a record so we have to keep that in mind.

Nice idea though!

In the 2024.2, we have updated the shortcut for the task “Search code” to Ctrl + Enter, to better reflect its function of confirming a search query rather than manipulating data.

Hope this helps!

Due to unforeseen impact during testing, we're reverting this change made in the 2024.2 release. We'll investigate the issue further and aim to include it in the 2024.3 release if possible.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi @HarryA, @J. de Lange, @Suleyman, @Balazs Szeder, @Ionut,

We have conducted further research.

We can implement a feature where pressing Ctrl + Enter triggers a code search. This would initiate a process flow that puts the code search form into edit mode. Upon confirmation (either by pressing Ctrl + Enter or by leaving the form), the row would be saved and a code search would be started.

However, for the Windows GUI, this means that the task button currently visible would become read-only. This is because the Windows GUI does not allow leaving the process flow while still in the middle of an edit action. Visually, there would be no indication that a user action (the Ctrl + Enter or leaving the form) is required, which might not be ideal from a UI/UX perspective.

In other words: we need to choose between using Ctrl + Enter for the code search, or the visual task button. Both cannot function simultaneously. What is your preference?

For me personally ctrl_enter will be easier, however, for someone who just started using the software a button I think will be best, in that way you know what is the upcoming action.

After considering both options and taking into account the feedback we received, we have decided to leave it as it is. We believe it is important that the platform remains intuitive for new users as well. Thank you for your input.
