User Notification questions

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

Hello,

Some questions on notification.

  1. When a process flow notification is triggered, users can see it upon logging into the system. But if the user is already logged in, how long does it take for the notification to appear for them?

                     - I’m experiencing an issue where the notification sometimes appears and sometimes doesn’t if the user are already logged in. What could be the possible reasons for the notification not showing up consistently?

  1. How long does a notification items remain in the Notifications after it’s sent? I’ve noticed that once the status changes to 'Sent', the notification disappears. Is there a configuration setting to retain it for a longer period? or how can I see all previous items?

  1. Additionally, how long does the notification remain visible on the portal? Is there a configuration setting that allows us to adjust the display duration?

  1. Is there a way that I can capture the sent date when the notification is sent and  capture  the statuses (below) from IAM,  which I can add in my process flow?

Thank you in advance

Hi @Jheng,

how long does it take for the notification to appear for a logged-in user?

I believe this can take up to a minute or so. The pending notification will be send to the user along with any request done when using the Universal GUI. This may include like badge logic, interacting with a search bar or opening a screen.

How long does a notification items remain in the Notifications after it’s sent?

In the Global settings of IAM, you are able to specify an amount of Notification items that will be left in the table after it has been sent. Periodically, the sent and expired notifications will be cleaned-up, leaving an amount of items in the Notification screen equal to the number specified in Global settings.

IAM > Settings > Global settings > Notification retention

In short with this setting, the latest 30 sent and expired notifications are retained.

how long does the notification remain visible on the portal?

A snackbar message is the only way we are able to show these notifications currently. I believe it stays on-screen for about 8 seconds. Please vote for this idea if you would like to increase it, or maybe even make it stay there until the user closes it manually:

Is there a way that I can capture the sent date when the notification is sent and  capture  the statuses (below) from IAM,  which I can add in my process flow?

The sent datetime is not captured currently so that is not possible. The main reason here is more to why you would like to capture this in a table of your own. IAM already holds all pending, sent and expired notifications. However, if you do want to copy the contents over, then an Application connector pointing to IAM could obtain the data form the notification table for you do with what you please.

Hope this helps!

Hi Mark / Jeroen,

Thank you for answering above, but there one question that was not addressed.

Another issue I’m encountering is that when there are many unread notifications—around 30 or more—due to the use of a scheduler, the process keeps getting triggered repeatedly. As a result, when there's a queue of messages, the system doesn't display the announcement popup.

I'm planning also to put this in ticket

Thanks

Hi Jheng,

Notifications are read on requests to Indicium and we try to do that every minute. In the case of a notification it is returned in a TSFMESSAGES header (in base64).

I did however found a potential problem where the notifications is read on requests that download images. In that case, the notification will not be shown in Universal. This is a bug in Indicium and we should not read messages in those cases.

I will create a user story for us to fix this in Indicium.

Regards,

Dick

Hi Dick,

Thank you for checking out on this matter.

But I would like to understand further, what do you mean by "problem where the notifications is read on requests that download images” , what is the connection of download images to the issue I'm encountering? mine is the notification text is inconsistency showing, and if there's lot of unread messages it is totally doesn't display the announcement popup.

Thank you

Hi Jheng,

You mentioned:

I did some investigation and found out that we also check notifications on image requests. This is a problem, because when Universal tries to download an image - it does that by telling the browser to download them.

In that case, the notification is returned in a TSFMessage header - but it can not be checked by Universal. This means that the notification will not be shown.

Not being able to see the messages when there are a lot is probably a different issue.
