Hi,

We noticed that after a Universal GUI update, some users were stuck on the old version.

It especially seemed to happen for users who used “Install as app” from the Edge browser.

App installed from Chrome I have seen automatically update. In the browser it also seems to update within a day or so.

What is your experience with Universal GUI updates?

Are there certain browsers that we should avoid? How reliable is installing the application as an app? Should we tell all users to clear their cache after an update?

Hi Robin,

Edge is a supported browser for the Universal GUI, and installing the application as an app (PWA) is a supported way to run it. The Universal GUI setup page covers both. There is no browser you need to avoid.

How it updates depends on your Universal version. From Universal GUI 2025.3.12, the Universal UI checks the web server for a new version each time it is opened, and it waits for that check to finish before it sends users to the login screen. In older versions users could log in before the check had finished and keep working on the cached version.

So you shouldn't need to tell all users to clear their cache after every update. For a user who is stuck, clearing the browser cache is the documented troubleshooting step.

If users keep getting stuck on the old version after following the troubleshooting steps, please create a ticket so we can look into it.
