Look up: link or pop up button

I am confused: why does a look up most of the times appear as a link, but sometimes as a button on the right of the field?
I am looking at the settings of these two columns, but can’t find what would determine this.

Another difference is that the link pop up is filtered on the specific record, but the button pop up goes to the row. Since it is not filtered on the row the second can be much slower to load.

Is it maybe because of the look up screen type? If it has the grid and form on in one container will it go for the button option instead of the link+filter option?

Oh, and one more difference is that the look up button only appears in the form and not in the grid while read-only in navigation mode. It would be nice if the pop-up is still openable in the grid in read-only mode.

Hi @Robin Liu ,

The lookup popup should be working as follows:

  • Grid:
    • If in edit mode, the lookup popup button should appear (still dependent on the “Show action button” setting on the domain, but I'll leave that as-is for now)
    • If in non-edit mode or whenever a field is read only, the hyperlink should appear on the active row (so by clicking on a row, thereby activating it and then clicking on the link, you will also open the popup)
  • Form:
    • This should work the same as the grid (but always showing the hyperlink in non-edit/read only mode as it always shows the active row)

So to conclude, it should have nothing to do with what kind of look-up it is.

If you find that it behaves differently from what I've described above, please let me know!

Best,
Bo

Oh, I see! Then it is because auto-edit was enabled on this subject.

It would still be nice if the pop up button was available in the grid in read-only add/edit mode.

For my filter problem I will have to consider whether it is worth disabling auto-edit to have faster pop up loading 🤔

I've looked into the case for the grid where a column is set to read-only in edit mode. Then indeed I see neither a hyperlink, nor a popup button.

This is not how I would expect it to work, so could you create a ticket in TCP about this issue?
