Embedded browser

Question

Can anyone tell me what control is in use for the embedded browser in the Windows GUI (in the document preview)? I have read that the browser used in winForms is based on IE 4. For one of our features we rely on this browser component, so it would be great to know exactly what we are looking at.

The Windows GUI tries to use the latest version of Internet Explorer installed (usually 11), by setting the FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION registry key.You can test this by opening this link in the Preview component: https://www.whatsmybrowser.org/

Does that mean the GUI somehow sets that registry key? Does it do so right before opening the browser? I'm just being curious here, although it's also good to know what we can expect from client machines.Here's the result btw, so you're completely right:
