The subtitles for open documents are great (Release notes Thinkwise Platform 2026.2.12 | Thinkwise Community), however there are some exceptions where you want to use the subtitle of the active detail (one level down) instead of the document itself.

Most menu items in the SF are a good example for this. For instance in the Functionality screen you don’t want to show the branch name as subtitle, but you want to show the control procedure name. I am guessing this is the reason the subtitles are currently disabled for the SF.

Therefor I would like a setting on the subject (+variant) level so that you can mark that subject to use subtitles of the active detail instead of the subject itself.

Additionally we would want to be able to turn off subtitles for a specific subject.

You're right about why it is disabled in the Software Factory. Note that we're not inclined to introduce the requested settings on Subject level.

  • For the request to show Detail information, we could consider to apply this in the UI if no PK and no Lookup display column is received from the Main subject. Alternatively you might be able to come up with some creative logic from your side to tackle this issue.
  • For the request to disable on specific subjects, could you give examples when you explicitly want this? It's something you should be able to do already using custom.css if really needed.
    • One idea that is lingering internally is introducing 3 options in the Menu settings. Instead of Always/Never, also include an option ‘Duplicate only’ in which case the Display lookup column would only be added if a Subject is opened for a second time.

It is not really about hiding specific subjects, but more about using it only for specific main subjects (f.e. products/orders/customers/suppliers). The first feedback we got from our users was that the Open documents got overwhelmed with text, making it harder to distinguish subject titles. We ended up ‘fixing’ this with less prominent CSS styling for subtitles and improving some lookup fields.

Sometimes it is a bit of a trade-off though with the same value being used as lookup and subtitle. For the lookup you need something unique, while for the subtitle you mostly want to keep it short and only use the main identity of the row. So if you ever plan to do something on subject level, an optional field to distinguish a specific subtitle from the lookup could be useful in some cases. Nevertheless in most cases being a bit creative with the lookup field works.

The ‘Duplicate only’ option also came up in our discussion btw, but there were also arguments that for some subjects subtitles still have value when there is only one open document of that type. I could imagine some users would be happy if they could set this as a user-preference though.

Are you planning to add subtitles to the SF?
