Auto-expand menu groups based on configurable conditions

Have you seen our recent UI update blog?

In this blog, we also included a chapter about the menu and the necessary changes (in our eyes) to improve this element.
Currently, we are far into the design stage of the several chapters, and for the menu we encountered the same issue.

However, we think the solution could be way more simple and elegant (and recognizable) than conditional opening of menu items (which can become impossible very fast, as you can only open 1 menu group at a time, so as soon as you have multiple menu groups with a badge with your suggested conditions, this idea becomes very difficult).

We are going to simply put a dot badge on the menu group when 1 or more of the menu items has a badge:

This behaviour is recognizable, as a lot of other software programs show the same behavior, making this easier for users to understand.

We hope this concept solves your issue. We are still inclined to have this feature ready this year, as it is only a visual GUI change.

I’ve seen the UI blog, and it’s great to see that, alongside the functional aspects of the Thinkwise application, there’s a clear focus on UI/UX as well. The blog describes many exciting developments that will undoubtedly contribute to an improved user experience. I noticed that the badges in the menu are being moved further to the right, which seems like a nice enhancement for this ticket.

It once again shows that I’m the developer and you’re the UI/UX Designer—I should have just presented the problem instead of suggesting a solution. What you described: "We are going to simply put a dot badge on the menu group when one or more of the menu items has a badge" definitely solves the problem I outlined and seems like a very clean solution.

I hope you’ll be able to release the update in 2024, as this would align with our planned migration from the Windows Platform to Universal by the end of this year.
