It would be great to be able to add Menu items to the topbar in the Universal GUI. I presume this is not new to the Universal development team. It is becoming quite common for applications to have a few icons to the top right (next to the User icon) with usefull features. If we would have the ability to ‘pin’ certain Menu items to the topbar, we come a long way I believe. These Menu items could be displayed as small Icons, including Badge symbols. Some ideas for which I believe this feature would be valuable:

  • My Tasks: a list with all Open Tasks for that User. Badge symbol to show nr of Open Tasks
  • My Workflow/Approvals: a list with all Pending Approvals/Reviews for that User. Badge symbol to show nr of Pending items
  • Notifications: a list with all notifications for the user (we are considering a feature to Subscribe to specific records, triggering a notification if certain activity is happening on that record)
  • Help: a link to page/context-specific User Instructions

Perhaps to make an easy first step: add the tasks to an extended property

Or even extend the default functionality of the IAM and model to have Help and Notifications.. These can be permanent features, especially with notifications. to read them back etc..

You can then add release notes or application specific notifications through the same system.

I think a lot is already there, but not optimally used yet!

@Anne Buit is this on the planning to have the IAM notifications for example in a proper user notification system where you can also read back and see if someone read it or not?

Hi all!

I have a few questions about the quick access topbar menu, as it still is a bit ambiguous what the expectations are about this quick access topbar menu.

  • How much flexibility do you need from this component?
    • Do you want to set all items yourself or do you expect Thinkwise to set (some) default industry standard functions?
    • Do you need the quick access topbar menu to be a different kind of menu (so menu items can open as an Open Document, start a task or process flow) or do you expect different behavior?
  • How many items do you need to show to your users in the quick access topbar menu?
    • Are these buttons going to be single actions, or are you also expecting a dropdown menu?
    • Including the profile menu, we see an average of 4 quick access topbar menu items. Would that suffice?
      • If not, how many more do you think you need?
      • On mobile, 4 buttons (next to the global search) will fill the topbar very quickly. In the case of surpassing that amount of buttons, what do you expect them to do if there is no room to show them all?

@Bart Metselaar a good start would be to have a notifications option. where 'errors' go to, where from the IAM you can send notifications and also from your application. In the notification you can then include links to the areas of your applications.

@Bart Metselaar , see the reply inline

Both, some industry standaard functions (eg. notifications) as well as setting some items ourselves (eg. open documentation or a specific task to quick start an action like the ‘Create a new  topic’ button in the Commutity is a good example)
    • Do you need the quick access topbar menu to be a different kind of menu (so menu items can open as an Open Document, start a task or process flow) or do you expect different behavior?
The described behaviour will cover the needs

  • How many items do you need to show to your users in the quick access topbar menu?
    • Are these buttons going to be single actions, or are you also expecting a dropdown menu?
Both (for instance for the notification area and to group some similar tasks, but that is not neccessary in a first version)
    • Including the profile menu, we see an average of 4 quick access topbar menu items.
There should be a restricted set of items available, so the average of 4 will be sufficient
