ARM build of Software Factory

Related products:Software Factory

The Software Factory is a pretty normal .net app if I’m not mistaken. (If I’m wrong quickly close this topic)

While I understand making a build of the SF for macOS is maybe a bit too much, it would be great if we could run the SF in a virtual machine with the ARM version of Windows, that would help performance when trying to develop on an MacBook!

I know it depends a lot on the dependencies and the exact build process, but for quite a few applications out there it’s quite trivial to also produce an ARM build of their binary.

I think someone said in the future the SF would also run on the universal GUI, but that’s all far out in the future, and this should be a pretty easy fix.

I think I was told that running the SF within the Universal client is more nearby than you’d expect… Care to elaborate on this @Arie V?

@SijeHarkema @Ricky I’m a bit hesitant to put a Release date on it already, but I’m pretty sure we will release the Software Factory on Universal in less than 12 months from now!

Hey @Arie V  , thanks for the reply. That is great news! But could still be quite a few months without an ideal situation for us, in which we hope to do lots of work with the SF.

In some situations building for ARM is a simple task, some cases just a single flag you have to give in the build process! If that is the case, that would be a big help for us and a small effort for the Thinkwise team.

I know there’s a decent change your dependencies make it impossible, or the build lane is complicated or something, but I really want to urge you to briefly look into this.

@SijeHarkema The Windows GUI runs on .NET Framework 4.7, which doesn't support ARM. As you can see in the Lifecycle policy, the Windows GUI has reached the status ‘End of Development’ already, so we won't be investing in ARM support.
