Merge base model into work: editable objects?

Forum|alt.badge.img+6

How can we build upon Thinkstore solutions?
When linking a base model to a work model, everything is read-only in the work model (which I understand). However I would have expected that using the task ‘Merge base models into work model’ would solve this, but this seems not the case. When using this task, ‘generated_by_control_proc_id’ is still filled with ‘Copied from base model’ leaving all objects from the base model still read-only in my work model.

Am I missing something or is this a bug?

I do have to add that in the upcoming 2025.2 version the Thinkstore does not yet support the base model being imported into a work model. For now it only can be linked to the work model, thus still requiring you to modify the base model itself if you would want to change the object.

Feel free to create an Idea for this!

Alternatively, you can unlink the object, therefore it is maintained in the work model instead. This allows you to modify the object. The merging of base models into the work model will not update that object as it is no longer maintained by the base model. More info here: Generic features | Thinkwise Documentation

To edit the base model (thinkstore solution) you need to switch to that model in the Software Factory.

To do this go to models → switch branch → open the lookup → disable the prefilters so you can see all models in your software factory → select the model you want to change(for example Trace Fields) → click open to switch to this model. You should now be able to edit the Thinkstore model.

With the upcoming release of the 2025.2 you will also get the option to import a model directly into your application, that way you do not need to edit and maintain base models.

Editing the base model is not a perfect solution since I cannot integrate it with objects of my own model that way. Good to hear that this will be solved with the next SF version though.

I have made an idea: Import a base model into a work model | Thinkwise Community

For now I used the unlink task on all objects of the base model and I used the difference analysis to check if I missed something.
