Hallo,

I want to select multiple rows from a grid and have a task process only the selected data.

I created a task and added a task parameter called selected_rows with the XML domain and disabled Popup for each row. I also added the MultiselectParameterID extended property in the Software Factory runtime configuration.

According to the documentation, the value should be the Universal GUI Indicium ID of the task parameter?

Questions:

  1. Where can I find the Universal GUI Indicium ID of the task parameter in Software Factory 2026.3.10.0.0? Is it different from the task parameter name?

  2. Should MultiselectParameterID be configured only in Software Factory, or does it also need to be configured in IAM under Global configurations → Extended properties?

  3. Also, when MultiselectParameterID is configured correctly, does the Universal GUI automatically display checkboxes for selecting multiple rows, or do users select rows using Ctrl-click or Shift-click?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jheng,

To answer your questions in order:

You don't need a special Universal or Indicium ID, it's just the ID of the task parameter in the Software Factory. In your case that would be selected_rows. One thing to be aware of though is that the extended property applies to the whole application so any task that has an XML parameter called selected_rows (with Popup for each row turned off) will be a multirow task.

Put it in the runtime config of your application in the SF. You don't need to add it to IAM under Global configurations as that's only required for the properties that are explicitly marked as global.

Users can select rows via Ctrl+click, Shift+click or Ctrl+A. As far as I'm aware there are no selection checkboxes on desktop at the moment (they only appear on touch devices).

Also worth noting: the XML is only populated when the task is actually run, so you can't use it in your default or layout logic. Duplicates aren't automatically filtered out either so you'll have to deal with that yourself. The Multirow task execution blog has a good example of the XML structure and how you'd go about reading it in SQL.

Hope this helps!

Small addendum, the task parameter does not have to use the XML datatype per se. It can be any String datatype such as varchar or nvarchar if desired.

For example, in Db2 for i, you may not want to use XML as datatype as it reserves the full 2,1GB in memory to allocate the potentially long XML string. For SQL Server, using the XML datatype is recommended.
