Is it possible to import data directly from a handheld scanner into Thinkwise?
And if it is possible, what is the best way to do that?

Hi,

See here for a possible solution:

There are barcode scanners that run android and can runn apps like the Mobile GUI and Universal GUI. In your screen you have a field with the Barcode scanner Domain control type. On your scanner, you can then select the barcode icon and after scanning the barcode, the barcode will be automatically entered.

Another question.

We recently bought the Zebra DS3608. Is it possible to use this one because it doesn't run any operating system on it? If it is possible is there information how i can implement this in Thinkwise?

Your barcode scanner should be connected to an Android or iOS device. On that device you can then install the Universal GUI (or Mobile GUI). When scanning a barcode, the Zebra scanner will input the characters of the barcode in the same way they would with the onscreen keyboard. So an input field has to be focused in order for it to work.

In this case you are saying that i need to use an Android or iOS device. What about an Windows notebook or PC? Does it specifically need to be an Android or iOS device?

If the Zebra DS3608 is connected to your windows pc, you can use the scanner as a keyboard. Just make sure your Thinkwise application is modeled for it.

It doesn't necessarily need to be an Android or iOS device. That is what we most commenly see as the workers walk a lot with the scanners. The scanner can also be connected to a PC running Windows for example, any operation system that can run the GUI and where the scanner can connect to and act as an input device, can function.

As long as the scanner can input the scanned code into the selected field on your device, it works

Another question:

How does the scanner know where to store the information in the database when you scan a barcode?
Is there a way of achieving that?

It functions as a virtual keyboard. When you select the field inside the GUI, and you are able to input data in it, you can then use the scanner to scan the code. The scanner will input the scanned code into the GUI field. And the GUI field is of course linked to a database field.
