I am trying to get our Barcode scanner to work entering fields in a grid. But the field seems to be behaving as read-only. Only after i use a domain without Control : Barcode scanner, does the field work as intented. The only downside is, now its seen as a normal input field and the keyboard opens everytime. I have tried turning read-only input control to on and off and turning barcode control on and off, no result. Any ideas? (Universal: 2025.3.14.0)

@bflachs @Guido Bijl 2 I have already tested the Offline executable parameter, and unfortunately that only works for Tasks that exist in the Menu at this stage, not for Table tasks (adding a Table task to the menu as a workaround doesn’t work for starting the Table task in offline mode either unfortunately). This might change in Q2 when we expect to add a bit more offline capabilities.

For the Barcode Control not working in the Grid: please raise a ticket in TCP. I think it makes sense that we make this work.

P.s. could you clarify why adding a Form with the Barcode Control doesn’t work in your Use Case?

Hello @Guido Bijl 2 ,

Currently the barcode scanner control is only supported in forms. Although it is possible to see the latest value within the grid, it is not possible to adjust this value within a grid.

As you mentioned, an alternative solution would be to use a regular text control, with the down side that this does not suppress the virtual keyboard.

This does seriously hamper my idea to get barcode scanning working again. We can’t use a task anymore because of the way the new universal caches task parameters. A form is lacking ways to keep focus on, where there are also grids/details on screen. And we use this on a tablet, so at this point the grid seemed the best way to keep focus and work for scanning, but since its on a tablet the onscreenkeyboard covers about half the screen, this is not ideal. I don’t really need barcode control other than to surpress the onscreenkeyboard, is there another control/way to allow input for scanning, but supress the keyboard?

For tasks, it seems good to mention that when a task is set to Offline Executable (Processes > Tasks > Settings > Offline > Offline Executable), no lazy loading of task parameters happens. Instead, all task information is loaded immediately upon opening the related document (or when starting the application for tasks that are available in the menu).

What problems are you experiencing regarding keeping the focus in a form?

Unfortunately, there is no other control that is editable in the grid that suppresses the virtual keyboard. Therefore it seems best to re-evaluate the possibilities of a barcode scanner control in a Task popup or a Form.

I have another less optimal solution at this point, where auto edit is off, the scanner sends ctrl-e to enable editing and than sends the barcode. Only downside is, we have to introduce a delay between ctrl-e and the actual interface opening edit mode and insert the barcode. Which is less than ideal because a. a delay and b. wifi performance becomes an extra factor onto a set delay. Ideally i’d have auto edit on, and surpess the keyboard, because than we don’t have to introduce delay.

I will also experiment a bit with the offline executable task. I think i have enough info to continue testing/trying out solutions. Thanks.

I will raise a ticket, barcode control in grid would be the best possible outcome for us.

The reason Form with Barcode control would not be ideal, it is very hard, when order pickers have to peruse through a grid, to keep focus on a form field at all times, without user interaction. We prefer them being able to scan without any user interaction (giving focus on a form, on a detail which is hard to explain to users).
