On subjects with many tasks, it is hard for the user to find the right task in the universal GUI. It is also impossible to show the tasks with name on the screen because it will never fit (and we don't want to put alsmost everything in the overflow menu).

Adding a task group doesn’t really help since it only creates a splitter.

Please add support for task-group sub menu to the universal GUI so that we can create a drop down with tasks.

Example (this subject even has more tasks in the overflow menu and hidden by context):

@PeterKeeris This is certainly on the radar! The model already offers the ‘Submenu’ setting for Task/Report/Pre-filter group and we intend to utilize this to offer the ability to display it in a dropdown-like manner on the Action bar.

@Bart Metselaar is already working on the design and I do expect we’ll get to implementation before end of the year.

@Arie V, @Bart Metselaar would it be possible to include a submenu for detail tabs as well in the design? Or do you want me to create a separate idea for that?

@PeterKeeris Detail tabs will be quite a different story, I think this Idea covers your wish:

Hi all!

Great news, as Arie already mentioned earlier: based on the Submenu checkbox, the action/report/prefilter/cubeview buttons of that group will be shown as a Dropdown Group button.

Here is an example of both horizontal and vertical aligned group buttons how they are going to look like eventually (this example is made from a Work In Progress project, keep in mind that some things will be susceptible to change):

The specs:

  • When the ‘Submenu’ checkbox of the group settings is checked, all buttons of that group are placed in a dropdown button
  • If a button in that group has the primary action, the group button will be shown in the primary button style

This feature will ship with Universal GUI 2025.3.13!

Note that by default Grouped action buttons will be available with Platform release 2026.1 onwards. The reason for this is the fact that, except for Pre-filter groups, the Task/Report/Cube view group settings do not yet support setting an icon and all groups don't support the Custom display type override yet.

However, it is possible to use this feature in combination with Platform versions 2025.1 / 2025.2 / 2025.3, by setting the extended property "enabledropdownforsubmenu" to "true".

The following features will be available from Thinkwise platform version 2026.1 onwards:

  • Currently, group buttons use the first letter of the group's name as an icon, similar to action buttons without a custom icon. In the Thinkwise platform 2026.1 release, you can set custom icons for group buttons.
  • Group buttons now use the same display type as their corresponding actions. In the Thinkwise platform 2026.1 release, you can set a custom display type for each group button.
  • User defined prefilters are not part of a group button yet. In the Thinkwise platform 2026.1 release, user defined prefilters will be part of a predefined group Own prefilters
