Modified by moderator:
This idea should be changed to making the Deployment center more advanced so you can use one Deployment center installation to maintain your entire Thinkwise platform:

  1. The deployment center can check/download updates of all Thinkwise products itself (including the deployment center itself).
  2. You can register all your environments (multiple dev/tst/acc/prod) in it.
  3. It gives an overview of all your environments x installed TW products in which it shows available updates/hotfixes that are not installed yet (with a button to initiate the process).

For hotfixes could also be considered to let you install them from within SF/IAM hotfix screen.

Old idea:

Please make it possible to download Thinkwise products without Deployment center and Workspace listener in TCP.

Currently TCP always adds the Deployment center and Workspace listener to Thinkwise products downloads, even if you are just downloading hotfixes. This make the download unnecessary big/slow (180mb for 2kb hotfixes).

Installing hotfixes on the IAM, SF, and/or Upcycler database should always be done using the Deployment center. This ensures hotfixes are not accidentally skipped or deployed twice.

@Mark Jongeling would you be so kind to change my first post and title please?

Hi @PeterKeeris, although most of these ideas I agree with, I don’t think the deployer is the right place for these. In my opinion IAM seems a more logical spot to implement all of these features. IAM should ideally than also notify a sysadmin when there are updates available.

Otherwise you would need to regularly open or check the deployer to see if there are new versions/hotfixes available for the Thinkwise platform.

Are there specific reasons why you would want this functionality in the deployer instead of IAM?

Hi Remco,

I think the Deployment Center is the right place for this, not IAM:

  1. The updater can’t be the thing being updated. An update takes IAM and Indicium offline (database upgrade, new binaries). It has to be run from outside the platform, and that is what the Deployment Center does.
  2. Across environments. Each environment has its own IAM. A standalone tool can show all environments (dev to prod) without linking them to each other.

As for notifications: Thinkwise already announces new releases and hotfixes through the community. In my view that is enough. Although I wouldn’t mind an extra notification through IAM.
