Most core applications have quite an extensive menu, easily creating a scrollbar for the menu, specially on smaller screens. When scrolling down, you lose sight of the Search field and Open documents which is quite annoying.

Therefor I suggest to make it possible for a user to pin down the Search field, the Open documents and the Favorites (each with their own setting) so that they stay locked on the screen and don’t disappear when you scroll down in the menu. This settings should be saved as a user preference.

I’d say the search field could be pinned down by default.

Since we are transitioning from a keyboard only ERP; we're coming up with a lot of shortcuts; but prominemnt is teaching everyone "alt-M" to get into the search bar quickly. That said I wouldn't mind having the search field pinned by default.

I agree with NielsB I think it makes more sense to have search be pinned by default. And make, the other options optional.

Plan is to stick Search, Open documents and Favorites on top as part of finishing this Idea:

We have no plans to make this a User Preference at this stage. Open documents and Favorites only show if there’s actually a document available. In addition, Favorites can be disabled in IAM and Open documents can be hidden too. For what purpose do you need a User Preference too?
