Hi!

Hi @Ezgi Esen,

Currently there is no such option. I converted your question to an idea.

Please be aware that not everyone speak Dutch on the community. You might get more responses and upvotes if you post in English.

Kind regards,

Interesting question! However, are you aware of the so called 'Miller's Law'?
The mental capacity of the average person is 7 items, plus or minus 2, in a series of options.
If we offer all the available options in one go to the user, it actually reduces the speed of finding the necessary items (even if less clicks are needed) vs offering them in chunks (like menu groups).

The fastest way to find a necessary menu item (regardless of expanded or collapsed menu groups) is the Menu Search box. Or inform your user to use the new ‘Favorites’ section if they often need to use a specific menu item.

Hi @Bart Metselaar,

I had never heard of Miller’s Law until now. I get what you’re saying, our users would like to disagree. It would be nice if at least some of the menu items could be set on a setting like ‘always expanded’. Most users do not have all the rights and would not be seeing as much menu items as the admins. In this case they would not be overwelmed with all the menu items.

The user experiences the extra click as an extra step, even though opening the menu item from a smaller selection might be a couple ms faster instead of ‘searching’ for your menu item. I think it’s more psychologically than a quantitative approach.

I’ve updated the status to ‘Open’, let’s see to what extend more members of our Community believe this would help their users.

In terms of implementation, we could go for something similar as we did for the Form sections in Universal: have a checkbox on Menu group ‘Default expanded’ and use User Preferences in IAM to override this setting. With Form sections we save the last state (expanded/collapsed) as UP if it deviates from the default setting, but only if a user has permission for that UP setting.
