From a privacy and security perspective, it would be beneficial to introduce a limit on the maximum number of records that can be exported from the system.

At present, exports can only be fully enabled or completely blocked. We would like the option to configure a maximum export limit—for example, allowing users to export no more than 100 rows per export.

@martijngaasbeek Can you clarify your Use Case, because how would that help privacy & security? I can understand how it would reduce impact of a single export and would then cost more effort to download more records, but Authorization prefilters and/or Task/Filter logic are stricter and smarter ways to limit the number of available records in the first place.

And of course, best to not offer Export functionality unless it is really needed for the end user, especially not for sensitive data.

Thank you, Arie!

Let's say you have 500K persons, currently it is possible to export them all..

In some specific cases, It might be needed to export a number of persons, but it is never useful to export 500K persons. So I think that people should not have the option to download that much of data.

So limiting the number you could export could benefit in three ways:

  • Making sure that people don't have excels on their computer with that much data
  • In case of a breach, it could slow down bulk extraction and increases the chance of detection through monitoring
  • I'm also curious about what would happen if someone clicks that button. I think it might interrupt the production environment.
