Previously, in the Windows GUI, we could configure a set of fields to be placed on a new tab. This option still exists in the SF, but the Universal GUI places the fields under a field separator. We do not want to eliminate this functionality, but I would like to see the Universal GUI handle placing fields on a new tab in the same way as the Windows GUI.

Currently, you can achieve the same result by creating a variant and displaying it through a reference. However, the drawback is that you can't change tabs while editing, and managing this setup involves much more work than when it can be done with a single subject or variant.

Ideally, I would like the following:

  • The "Field on next tabpage" option should ensure that the fields starting from this checkbox are placed on a new tab, working the same as in the Windows GUI.
  • The "Field on next section" option should cause the fields from this checkbox to be placed under a field separator, similar to how the "Field on next tabpage" option currently works in the Universal GUI.

@BramG We intend to implement Collapsible form tabs as shown in the Blog about Data Density:

That solution would be sort of middle-ground to your suggestion, as it does provide you to show less data by default and allow users to collapse/expand upon request. Given the nature of web-based applications and the move to less navigation through hierarchies and tabs, we don't intend to re-introduce the Next tab for the Universal GUI like it was for the Windows GUI.

Would this alternative suffice for you?

Yes this would be a great feature indeed. Maybe it would be even better then tab pages, as it helps seperate from detail tab pages.

@BramG Good to hear you like it! Have taken the liberty to merge this Idea with a similar one then.
