Can we please get a more user friendly version of cubes? Setting up a simple graph is more complicated than it should be. I feel like we could greatly benefit from having the UI/UX team having a look at cubes and think of a more refined way of creating cubes and graphs.
Maybe adding a wizard to guide you through the creation process would be very helpful.

Hi Erwin,
We do offer the Create cube task to quickly turn a table/view into a functioning Cube/Chart, does that task suffice? What parts are the most challenging?
In the (hopefully) near future we intend to have a WYSIWYG GUI editor so you can set-up the cube from the end poruct and write the configuration back to the Software Factory. Would that solve this idea?
Things I think could be improved:
The automatic mapping of the time designations is faulty. Sometimes weeks get mapped to months or days to weeks.
The cube replaces the table instead of creating a seperate entity.
The naming of the cube sections (rows etc) do not match names in the gui.
Somehow you can only get a horizontal grouping if you add a vertical axis.
The relationship between the cube view and the cube itself is very confusing.
There is no preview in the sf so a lot of switching between sf/gui is involved.
There seems to be a lot of bugs in cube. Setting a column to show in data, and somehow it will end up in filters for example.
Creating a simple chart that would take me 1 minute in excel can quickly take up to an hour to create in a cube.
Creating the cube/graph from the front end would help but it would still need you to set up the totals, the views, the labels etc. So I think it would not be the end all but more a start to a cube 2.0. So for now I would vote to leave this idea intact to see if there are more developers struggling with the cube/graphs.
This is planned to be resolved with the Roadmap 2025 H1 efforts.
In the 2025.1 release, we will enhance a number of cube-related screens to improve clarity and usability. These changes will help you configure your cube views more efficiently.
In summary, the following changes have been made:
- Menu
- In the menu group User interface, the menu item for cubes is now called Cubes instead of Business intelligence.
- tab Cube
- The field Dragging fields has been renamed to Enable cube panel.
- cube fields in separate tabs
- The detail tab Cube fields has been split into two tabs: Dimensions and Values. This change makes it easier to add the cube field of your preferred type and configure it accordingly.
- The fields Summary type and Summary display type have been renamed to Aggregation type and Aggregation display type. This change makes it clearer how the fields are used.
- tab Cube view
- The detail tab Cube view now has a grouped grid, similar to other screens in the Software Factory. Cube views are shown in their respective groups, which you can configure in the detail tab Cube view groups.
- The new Cube set-up panel allows you to configure the cube view fields visually, similar to how you would create a cube view in your application. The cube areas use the same name and icon as in the application. You can use drag-drop to place fields into a cube area, to remove them from a cube area, or to change the field order within an area.
- Settings specific to the cube view type are shown in vertical detail tabs:
- Pivot settings - contains all pivot-related settings of the cube view.
- Chart settings - contains all chart-related settings of the cube view.
- Filter settings - contains all filter-related settings for the cube view fields with area series, categories, and filters.
- Sort settings - contains all sort-related settings for the cube view fields with area series, categories, and values.
- Model content - The screens Cube fields, Cube views, and Cube view fields are now also available as detail tabs in the menu Models > Model content. These screens contain objects that are not shown in their parent context and can be used for global actions such as filtering, searching, analyzing, comparing, and (mass) updating data.
