Use other hotkeys for Add & Delete records (ctrl+ / ctrl -)

Problem

We try to provide our users with as much data on the screen as possible, however since the Compact Mode of the Universal GUI is not compact enough. We advise our users to adjust the zoom level of their browser to 90%, however when they use the popular short key ctrl & -, they get a prompt asking if they want to delete the record they are in.

This issue also arises when an end user tries to show something on a larger screen with a different resolution (eg. on a large tv screen for a presentation)

Solution

So since ctrl & - and ctrl & + are popular short key, do not use them as “thinkwise short key”. Instead maybe use ctrl & alt & - or something similar.

We lately found out there is a difference between pressing the - and + key on the numpad of your keyboard and the one besides the backspace.

Zooming can be done by Ctrl + Shift + - and Ctrl + Shift +, using the keys besides the backspace.

Is that a helpfull sugestion for this situation?

I feel the problem isn’t so much that it’s impossible to zoom using hotkeys in the Universal GUI, but rather that a popular and standardized hotkey combination is used for something completely different in the Universal GUI.

Hi Erik,

As @J. de Lange  stated, it’s not so much to problem that it’s impossible to zoom in/out with other means, the problem is that the Universal GUI overrides popular hotkeys with Universal related actions. In general this seems bad for user experience.

Thanks for your quick respond!

We will take this into account. We already started using a classic/modern keybinding mode. This is in line with that.

I will bring it up for discussion internally.
