What if a new column / task parameter / report parameter is added after setting up the rights? For this question I'm behind the idea that Robert-Jan presented If you give a table rights because you need a column look-up, you now only get the display. Should this change? For this scenario I'd say having the display is enough when the only reason for the rights is to view the column look-up I think that when adding a table task, for example, it is going too far to give rights to both the table with its columns and the task with its parameters. Personally I wouldn’t go that far either with granting rights to the parent of the given object. What I would like though is when granting rights from the parent, in this case the table, that when granting table task rights the task parameters are also included
Hey Hugo, When applying roles to the database in the 2018.2 there is an option to apply a single role or all the roles to the database. This can be done by selecting a role in the task or to leave that field empty. The script that will be generated will be different for each option. If you have doubts about what exactly happens during this process you can choose to write the scripts that would be executed to a file. This should give more insight in what happens in the background. This file can also be executed separately in the SQL studio. When applying a single role to the database the existing roles should not be affected. But to be completely sure both scripts that were executed should be checked, the one where the errors occurred and the one that solved the errors. Once the scripts are compared with each other further investigation can take place about the difference in permissions. Hope this helps! With kind regards, Jeffrey
