Currently it's not possible to import a model.dat export into a newer version of the SF. First you need to upgrade your source SF to the version of the target SF and then do the export and import. However for doing a quick export and import between different SF environments you do not always want to do an upgrade of the source SF. A work around is to do the same steps on a local installation. This is however time consuming if you want to do this multiple times for different source or target versions.
Wouldn't it be great to have a tool that converts your model.dat file to any higher SF version? This would save a lot of time. A separate tool would already be great but having the import function of the model.dat in the SF doing the conversion for you would be even better.
Hey Dick,
Great idea, however this will not be something that the Software Factory will provide. Due to all the mutations happening when upgrading from one version to the next, it is simply not possible to do that with a Task for instance.
This idea can be fulfilled by having an autonomous process that takes the model.dat, places it in a fresh SF of the correct version, then upgrades that SF to the desired version, and then exorting the model once again. This can actually already be created by yourself most likely. So for this to become something implemented, we would first need to think of what we can offer as Thinkwise to facilitate this process.
I'll change the related product for now to the Deployer product.
